Meet Your Home Vet

Dr. Jessica Maines DVM, CHPV

Hi there, I am Dr. Maines (or Dr. Jessica). I am a small animal veterinarian in Jacksonville, FL and the owner of Your Home Vet. I grew up in Central Florida. I earned my degree in veterinary medicine from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, after completing my clinical year at Auburn University. After graduating, I married my husband, Chris. You may have the pleasure of meeting him at our appointments or speaking with him on the phone. He is my Office Manager and loves animals just as much as I do. We have two cats, Kitty Sundae and Joe, and one dog, Parker. My hobbies include going to the beach, paddleboarding, hanging out with friends and family, and pursuing continuing education (maybe not a “hobby” but I like doing it nonetheless). I also enjoy writing so I hope to add some more interesting blogs for you all, but we’ll see how that goes.

I started my career in a corporate, small animal general practice. I realized that, at times, it was difficult to fully assess a patient sitting in an exam room. I couldn’t see the “whole picture” of a pet’s condition because I didn’t know what they were like at home. This is why house calls are so wonderful! I get the chance to know my patients in their natural environment, where they feel the most comfortable.

I love veterinary medicine because I love animals and I care about their quality of life. No animal deserves to suffer. Plus, veterinary medicine is always changing so it keeps me on my toes! My biggest passion in this profession is geriatric medicine and end-of-life care for our older population of dogs and cats. This is why I became a certified hospice and palliative care provider and certified with Fear Free. I am currently completing a certification in acupuncture. Pets are not only the family we choose, they are our best friends. I do my best to treat each of my patients like the family member they are.
